William goes to War in France and Belgium

According to records of the King’s Own Royal Regiment Museum in Lancaster, after Wadham O.T.C. School, William was with the 3rd Bn. K.O.R.L.R. (the Depot Bn.) until he was posted to the 7th Bn. of the same regiment in September 1916. A depot Bn. was responsible for recruitment, outfitting and training of recruits to be sent to front line Battalions, like the 7th Bn. The 3rd Bn. was based in England for the whole of the war and after the war, the authorities decided no records of this Bn. were important enough to preserve and they were destroyed.
